'Baby Shark' Bath Toys Are Recalled Over Injury Risk.

"About 7.5 million "Baby Shark"-themed bath toys are being recalled over concerns that the top fins of the plastic sharks could cause injury, including serious wounds.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday there were 12 reports of children falling or sitting on the toy's hard plastic fin, causing cuts, puncture wounds and impalement injuries. Nine required stitches or medical attention, the agency said.

The Baby Shark Sing & Swim Bath Toys are made by toy maker Zuru and have been sold at Walmart, Target and other stores nationwide since at least 2019. The recall covers 6.5 million 7-inch plastic sharks and about a million 4-inch versions. There haven't been any injuries reported from the smaller sharks, the CPSC said.

The toys are based on the YouTube sensation "Baby Shark," a 2-minute video and song about a family of colorful cartoon sharks. The catchy song and video, posted in 2016, became a favorite of toddlers, surpassing 10 billion views on YouTube last year. The pink, yellow and blue sharks were stamped on everything from cereal boxes to toothbrushes.

People who own the recalled bath toys should stop using them immediately, the CPSC said. Refunds are available through Zuru's website.

Zuru said it is working with retailers to remove and destroy the products." [1]
