"Meta Platforms, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has
introduced Movie Gen, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) model for
creating voice-over realistic videos based on textual instructions and photos.
Movie Gen can be used for a variety of tasks, including
creating and editing video clips and audio tracks up to 16 seconds long, and
converting images to video, Meta reported.
The US tech giant plans to offer Movie Gen to Hollywood
studios and artists, and hopes to integrate it into its social platforms as
early as next year.
No release plans for Movie Gen have been revealed.
Movie Gen is trained on "a combination of licensed and
publicly available datasets," noted Meta, which has used public content
from Facebook and Instagram for its AI products.
OpenAI, maker of AI chatbot ChatGPT, unveiled a similar
system called Sora in February this year, and AI startup Runway in September
got permission from movie studio Lionsgate to use its films to build its own
model.
On the other hand, the emergence of such generative AI
models has raised serious concerns about "deepfakes"."
