"Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has called on Europe
to emancipate itself from the USA and not to unnecessarily diminish its own
importance. He said that the USA is moving away from a rules-based policy
towards a power-centered policy, during a campaign appearance in Heddesheim
near Mannheim.
'But we mustn't bury our heads in the sand and try to survive
in some niche,' the Chancellor said at the event with the CDU's leading
candidate for Baden-Württemberg, Manuel Hagel. 'That won't work.' To be
respected, Germany must learn to assert its own interests.
In Germany itself, people will have to learn to work more
and longer hours again, Merz said. The
industrial base must be preserved, otherwise the upcoming problems cannot be
solved. He said that Germany is fighting
for the future of the country in many respects, both in foreign and domestic
policy. 'We are confident that we can solve these problems because the solution
to these problems is also in our hands.'
Shortly before the state election on March 8, Merz is
expected to visit southwestern Germany again to support Hagel in his bid for
the office of Minister-President. Hagel aims to succeed the incumbent
Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann of the Green Party, who is not running
for re-election."
Work more. Eat more beans. Produce more cheap gas this way. You cannot preserve industry without cheap gas. Germany will be great again.
