Lithuanian education today

 

"Fundamental changes in Lithuanian education are possible only by inviting large numbers of foreign specialists, and they will, of course, teach a lot in English. I don't expect anyone to read this text and say, what the hell, what a good idea, that's what we're doing. But if I repeat it for another ten years, the idea won't seem so absurd anymore.

There is a situation where many children, especially in Vilnius, quietly attend foreign schools, because their parents know that if they want to drive a car, it probably won't make sense to wait until they build a new patriotic Lithuanian auto industry startup near Pagėgiai and start producing Lithuanian cars "Vytautas" there... You just have to buy a foreign one.

The reason why children in Lithuania learn English is easy to find: either we lived abroad (and who hasn't lived abroad these days), or we are preparing to go abroad, or the university will be abroad. However, of course, for now everyone pretends that this is only an exception, and that normal studying is Lithuanian. It won't happen soon: soon Lithuanian studying will be as rare for gourmets as a Lithuanian apple. Because if you want to grow apples, you have to plant apple trees, look after them, take care of them, have specialists who can deal with those apple trees, and also compete with foreigners who have been growing those apples much more successfully for many years."

Lithuania is no longer a bridge between East and West. We destroyed that bridge a long time ago with our soft, unaccustomed to hard work, hands. Do not say that the West is to blame - the Hungarians are still successfully working as such a bridge, even though they are in both the European Union and NATO. He who has a desire, does it. Now Lithuania is Palanga's bridge to nowhere. You come to see the sun in the evening and return to where you emigrated. We do not learn anything more serious and we are not going to learn it.
