Against the New, Politicized Scientific Method

"Tim Trevan pulls back the shroud from science and it's not pretty, folks ("Why Scientists Got the Covid Lab Leak Wrong," op-ed, March 7).

I appreciate his candor about modern elements of the scientific method, which apparently include "career progression" and whether there is money to be made. Scientists, he writes, sometimes "ignore or discount evidence that challenges us," defend against "outsider attacks" and form views based on "prominent people with whom they agree on issues."

I learned a better version of the scientific method in high-school biology class, dissecting a frog.

I agree with Mr. Trevan that "scientists are human." When I read his bullet points, "dissonance," "social proof," "self-selection", "in-group and out-group dynamics" and "cultural cognition," I came away with ego, status and money.

Many scientists of the Covid era deceived the American public by intentionally shutting down all debate on Covid origins. Where did these leading scientists lead us?
