"Authorities in New Zealand are investigating a midair incident that injured passengers on a Latam Airlines flight from Sydney to Auckland.
Roughly 50 people were treated by first responders after a Boeing 787 Dreamliner experienced what the Chilean airline called a "technical event" that caused "a strong movement." Media reports quoted passengers saying the plane, which carried 263 passengers and nine crew members, appeared to lose altitude suddenly. It landed as scheduled Monday afternoon in Auckland, Latam said.
Chile's civil-aviation office said it would send a representative to participate in the incident probe, which is being led by a New Zealand accident-investigation commission.
A New Zealand ambulance service, Hato Hone St. John, said it dispatched 14 units to Auckland International Airport after learning of the in-flight disturbance. Ten passengers and three crew members were taken to a hospital for further observation, but most have been released, according to Latam. A passenger and a crew member remained hospitalized with injuries that weren't life-threatening, Latam said.
Latam said it is committed to safety in its operations. Boeing said it was gathering more information about the flight and would provide any support needed by its customers.
Boeing's reputation has suffered from a pair of fatal 737 MAX 8 crashes in 2018 and 2019 that grounded hundreds of jets for nearly two years. More recently, various Boeing models have been dogged by issues including misdrilled holes, loose rudder bolts and a door-plug blowout on an Alaska Air 737 MAX 9 in January." [1]
This what happens when finance people start running a great engineering company. Now all these technical events are great luck for competitors Europeans and Chinese.
