“Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar stated after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that Budapest will not send weapons to Ukraine. TVP World writes about this on Friday. P. Magyar met with M. Rutte in Brussels on Thursday to discuss preparations for the upcoming Alliance summit in Ankara. On the social network “X” P. Magyar said after the meeting: “Hungary will once again be a reliable partner in the world’s strongest military alliance,” but added: “I informed the Secretary General that Hungary is not supplying weapons or military equipment to Ukraine.” His refusal to send weapons to Kyiv, along with policies such as the renewal of a ban on food imports from Ukraine, is likely to disappoint some European analysts and politicians who had hoped for a more favorable Hungarian stance towards Ukraine after years of Viktor Orbán’s government frequently clashing with Kyiv and blocking conflict-related EU and NATO initiatives. Magyar has previously said he would support opening new negotiating chapters in Ukraine’s EU accession process only “if an agreement is reached on the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.””
