Trump's Waver Hurts Ships

“Regarding your editorial "Trump Halts the Blockade of U.S. Ports" (May 6): The administration's Jones Act waiver extension is a baffling contradiction of its own industrial policy. After committing $65 billion to domestic shipbuilding and releasing a Maritime Action Plan to restore American dominance, the administration now risks undermining the shipyard industrial base that serves as the economic lifeblood in all 50 states.

Waivers don't offer meaningful relief for American energy prices. Instead, they chill the long-term investment necessary to modernize our fleet. Opening U.S. ports and coastlines to foreign-crewed vessels invites infiltration of our maritime borders and leaves us vulnerable to price-gouging by foreign entities.

If the administration is serious about a "Made in America" future, it must hold the line. The Jones Act isn't just about shipping; it's about national sovereignty and the integrity of our domestic supply chain.
