All workers of bribery, unite

Now that it has become clear that Skvernelis is accused of taking bribes, his Democratic Party is being invited to govern together with the Social Democrats. The Conservatives are also tainted with bribes, they ruled together with the corrupt Liberals, whose leader Eligijus Mačiulis is in prison.

Žemaitaitis' party is not entering into these agreements. Žemaitaitis is ready to take power, become prime minister, and later - president.

My condolences to the Jews of Lithuania, they have certainly not been successful.

The Council of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) has officially decided to remove Remigijus Žemaitaitis' "Nemunas Aušras" from the ruling coalition and invited Saulius Skvernelis' Democratic Union "For the sake of Lithuania" to negotiate. This political reshuffle is taking place against the backdrop of S. Skvernelis being formally charged with bribery, and R. Žemaitaitis' rhetoric and legal proceedings leading to his party's departure to the opposition.

Key political facts and context

• Suspicions against Saulius Skvernelis: The Special Investigation Service (STT) and the Prosecutor General's Office have formally charged S. Skvernelis with accepting a bribe of at least 51 thousand euros in cash in exchange for political favors. S. Skvernelis denies the allegations, and the Seimas previously lifted his legal immunity. Nevertheless, the Social Democrats decided to invite his party to form a new majority.

• Removal of Nemunas Aušra: The ruling LSDP council made the final decision to terminate the coalition agreement with Nemunas Aušra. R. Žemaitaitis publicly stated that he felt “relief” rather than resentment over this decision, as the party would have to take less responsibility for government decisions in the opposition.

• Political past: Allegations about corruption scandals of previous governments are based on real processes – for example, in the so-called “MG Baltic” political corruption case, former Liberal Movement leader Eligijus Masiulis was sentenced to prison and is serving it in prison.

• R. Žemaitaitis’ legal status: Remigijus Žemaitaitis has received harsh international and domestic criticism and legal proceedings for anti-Semitic statements and incitement to hatred. For these reasons, President Gitanas Nausėda refused to appoint members of “Nemunas aušra” to the cabinet of ministers, which also paralyzed the work of the initial coalition.

Currently, a new phase of coalition reorganization is beginning in the country, moving the "Dawn of Nemunas" to the opposition in the Seimas

I remind you of the main characters of the current bribery scandal:

"Former ministers have revealed shocking details about the bribery scandal that also involved S. Skvernelis. What could be the origins of the corruption scandal that shook the State Plant Service? Is it true that this service was a breeding ground for more than one party in power? Former ministers of agriculture interviewed by "Lietuvos rytas" tried to answer these and other questions

The stormy events of recent times - threatening drones straying into Lithuania, police and border guards helping smugglers to find out, data theft from the Center of Registers - have somewhat pushed the corruption case at the State Plant Service (VAT) being unraveled by law enforcement officers out of the public eye. However, some puzzling things have also emerged in this case.

It turns out that the search of the former Minister of Agriculture, a long-time Conservative, Kazys Starkevičius, was sanctioned by a ruling of the Vilnius District Court, which was adopted on November 4 last year, but for some reason it was carried out only in February.

The Prosecutor General's Office neither denied nor confirmed this information from delfi.lt. Neither the Special Investigation Service nor the Vilnius District Court commented on it.

As already written, during the pre-trial investigation, K. Starkevičius admitted to taking a 20 thousand euro bribe, and resigned from the Seimas and the party.

Former Democratic Party leader MP Saulius Skvernelis, who previously held a number of high-ranking positions, has come under suspicion and lost his legal immunity, but he is not resigning from the Seimas, explaining that he will need money for litigation.

Suspicions of corruption were also brought against the director of the VAT, Jurijs Kornienko, and a dozen other individuals. One of them is Agnė Silickienė, a former advisor to S. Skvernelis.”
