How much does it cost for a book to find its reader?

The prices of books from the Lithuanian publishing house "Lapas" usually range from €13.50 to €30.00. The average price of a fiction or non-fiction book is around €17.00–18.00. The exact price depends on the format and circulation of the book.

So, bookstores are expected to collect no less than €27,000 for one book (see below for why).

Press release from the publishing house “Lapas”:

“Our experience shows that it is worth investing in a book only if it is expected to sell at least 2,000 copies.

Publications with a smaller audience usually require at least partial financing. And books that are expected to sell up to 1,000 copies can usually be published only when their creation is fully financed by the state, business partners, foundations or co-publishers. Paradoxically, such books are culturally important and make up the majority of the “Lapas” catalog.”
