“According to the investigation, a soldier of the Military Conscription and Recruitment Center, responsible for the administration of conscripts, allegedly took bribes in exchange for young men who were on the conscript lists not being invited to perform mandatory initial military service.

 

It is suspected that in this way more than 200 people could have avoided service, and the bribes amounted to up to 600 euros. ELTA reported that charges were brought against two soldiers and five civilians.

 

One soldier is suspected of bribery and trading in influence, while a soldier who served in another unit and five civilians are suspected of trading in influence. The pre-trial investigation is being led by the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office, and the investigation is being conducted by the Military Police of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.”
