IMF: Ukraine will lose $ 1.2 billion annually because of Nord Stream 2

 "Russia's second export gas pipeline across the Baltic Sea to Germany's Nord Stream 2 will deprive Ukraine of approximately $ 1.2 billion in revenue from Russian gas transit to the West by 2024, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission in Ukraine.

 

    "Over the past five years, Ukraine has received an average of just over 2.5 billion USD a year  revenue from the supply of Russian gas transit services. This amount is expected to be about 40% lower this year,” - IMF experts note.

 

    "The launch of Nord Stream 2 could further reduce Gazprom's gas exports to Ukraine, bringing Ukraine's revenue from this transit to around € 1.2 billion. "The fund notes that the current agreement between Russia's gas monopoly and Ukraine's Naftogaz will expire in 2024.

 

    Under the agreement signed in the last days of 2019, the annual volumes of mandatory (pump or pay) Russian gas transit through Ukraine were reduced to 65 billion in 2020 cubic meters, and in 2021-2024 - up to 40 billion cubes annually.

 

    Last month, Ukraine offered the European Union tariff concessions for Russian gas transit in excess of this limit. "
