"During his visit to Belarus and after a meeting with
Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, the Director of the Russian Foreign
Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, answered journalists' questions and
reproached Poland, the Baltic states and NATO as a whole.
S. Naryshkin was asked how he assessed the situation around
the allied state against the backdrop of aggressive rhetoric and militarization
of its Western neighbors, reports the Belarusian state news agency BELTA.
According to him, Poland and the Baltic states are
demonstrating special aggressiveness, especially in their rhetoric, and, as S.
Naryshkin said, "clacking weapons."
“Poland has gone so far as to announce its plans to place
about two million anti-tank mines along the border with Belarus and the
Kaliningrad region, and would very much like – hopes, hopes – to receive
nuclear weapons from the Americans,” S. Naryshkin stated.
He also accused the West of provoking the crisis.
“This is, of course, sad. They cannot
possibly understand that it was precisely the strengthening of military
activity at the borders of Russia and Belarus that became one of the factors
and reasons that caused the current major, acute and very dangerous crisis on
the European continent,” he said.
In conclusion, S. Naryshkin mentioned the possibility of
striking the territories of the Baltic states and Poland in the event of a
military conflict.
“They should realize (although they
do not yet realize) that in the event of aggression by the North Atlantic
Alliance against an allied state, damage will be done, of course, to the entire
NATO bloc, but the spreaders of such ideas among the political circles of
Poland and the Baltic states will suffer first,” he said.”
