Artificial intelligence: Germany must be able to do this itself

"AI speech systems à la ChatGPT impress with their ever-increasing performance. In the future it will not be enough to simply buy such offers from the leading corporations in America.

Of course, the large German companies could theoretically simply wait and see which artificial intelligence (AI) à la ChatGPT the American IT companies Alphabet, Meta or Microsoft (via OpenAI) will one day offer them - and then buy the corresponding services there, as they do have done so many times before when it comes to extremely useful software.

At the same time, however, our country must be in a position to make its own competitive offers here. Because the AI voice systems that are currently so popular are so powerful that – in combination with better sensors and even faster computers – they could fundamentally change how we deal with and use IT.

That is why we need a critical mass of people, companies and research institutions in this country who understand exactly how and why these systems work, what algorithms and what hardware is required. Luckily, independently of the "LEAM" initiative that has now been launched, there is also the impressive start-up Aleph Alpha or the upgraded Leibniz data center in Garching. But more can only be useful in view of this scope."
