“The often-sagacious Joseph Epstein gets it wrong in his op-ed "May the Post-Trump Era Begin ASAP" (Aug. 25). He and millions of other people "simply wish him gone," but Donald Trump's presence in the national conversation will linger long after he leaves the White House.
The late cable-news anchor Lou Dobbs, in his 2020 book "The Trump Century" (written with my help), predicted this longevity.
The Democrats have no other real agenda than "Trump Bad." They will keep demonizing him, though this will require a leap in illogic.
Otherwise, what politician would dare oppose making tips and overtime pay tax-free, reducing taxes paid on Social Security checks, reining in China and Iran for their many sins, prodding Europe to pay more for its own defense and working to rebuild U.S. manufacturing?
Republicans, meanwhile, will make a sport of embracing Mr. Trump's agenda or boldly rejecting it. The favorites in the next race for the Republican presidential nomination will be Trump acolytes. Much to Donald Trump's delight, everyone will be dancing to his tune for years to come.
