Lavrov Makes Serious Accusations Against the US: Speaks out on Nord Stream

“ELTA Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the United States of seeking to control the Nord Stream gas pipelines, further exacerbating geopolitical tensions over one of Europe’s most sensitive energy projects, the Money Control news website reports.

According to Reuters, in an interview with France Télévisions, Lavrov said Washington is now “saying it wants to take over the Nord Stream gas pipelines,” without providing any details or evidence to support the claim. The minister’s comments come as the pipelines, which were previously the main route for Russian gas supplies to Europe, are still largely out of service after explosions in September 2022. The Nord Stream pipeline, built under the Baltic Sea, was designed to deliver Russian natural gas directly to Germany and Europe.

The 2022 explosions severely damaged the pipeline infrastructure, effectively cutting off a key energy supply corridor and further exacerbating Europe’s energy crisis. While sanctions on Russia had already limited gas supplies as relations with the West deteriorated, this act of sabotage has accelerated Europe’s move away from Russian energy. The investigation into the incident has been ongoing for several years and is being conducted by several countries. Both Russia and Western governments have called the bombings sabotage, but no final conclusion has been made public.

A Ukrainian citizen was arrested in Italy last year on suspicion of coordinating the attacks, further complicating the case.

Lavrov made his accusations in the broader context of the United States seeking to dominate global energy markets. He cited US actions in countries such as Venezuela and Iran, arguing that Washington is expanding its influence over strategic energy assets around the world.

However, he did not provide specific evidence directly linking the US government to any attempts to control the Nord Stream pipeline.

Although Lavrov did not comment further on his statements, there have been previous reports that several private sector players are interested in the pipeline. In 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported that American investor Stephen P. Lynch was considering purchasing the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, one of which is still intact. Lynch had approached the US government for permission to begin negotiations on the deal, arguing that ownership could provide strategic leverage in future geopolitical negotiations. Meanwhile, there is no evidence that the US government has taken any official steps to take control of the pipeline.”

The fact that a Ukrainian, supported by the West, is accused of organizing the bombing of the Nord Stream energy infrastructure of Western Europe, significantly undermines the propaganda statements of the Western elite about caring about the well-being of Western European voters.
