The potatoes had already grown considerably when it snowed heavily in early May. The snow broke 14 hectares of potatoes overnight, pressing the seedlings with film. Illegal chemistry can do the same thing – destroy what has been grown, so I only deal with large, solid companies supplying it. They compete fiercely, which brings down the prices of fungicides, pesticides, and other plant protection products,” said Rimantas Žebarauskas, a farmer from the Kėdainiai district.

 

According to him, when growing early potatoes, after planting them in March, the soil is sprayed with products designed to kill weeds.

 

"If the season is good, potato sales are good, the harvest is harvested quite quickly, and no more chemicals are needed.

 

The most important thing for potatoes is water and sun. But if we see that sales are decreasing because of unhealthy competition - the trade in supposedly Lithuanian potatoes, but actually imported from Poland or Romania, then we need to keep healthy potatoes un-dug as long as possible.

 

In order to prevent them from being destroyed by the plague, sometimes they have to be sprayed with anti-plague preparations at the very end of June," explained R. Žebarauskas."
